Interacting with github repositories

I have a git repository I’m using to construct a set of jupyter notebook exercises for the upcoming MsPASS short course Earthscope is sponsoring. I remember being able to push and pull from that repository last year, but I am not sure how to do this since github instituted a more rigorous authentication procedure. On a regular machine I use the ssh keygen and copy a public key to github which eliminates any login except the password for the ssh key. Can I run ssh keygen on geolab and use that method? Maybe I’m being to paranoid and it will just work. Anyone out there know if that will work with github?

Note, I am sure I can solve this problem on my own, but suspect that preserving a solution on this forum will be helpful to others.

Hi Gary - yes, you can use SSH keygen in GeoLab. It’ll save your ssh key to your /home/jovyan directory so it will persist across sessions. One of our interns just wrote up better docs on this. If you want a sneak peek, the PR is here. Please let us know if this doesn’t answer your question or work for you and we’ll work on clarifying. doc: Add documentation about setting up SSH key by eshntmshra · Pull Request #6 · EarthScope/GeoLab-docs · GitHub

Thanks, that is helpful. Gemini was giving me this elaborate procedure, but I think it was digesting some posting from high security installations with serious paranoia.
