Creating Your First Post in the GeoLab Community Forum

Welcome to the GeoLab Community Forum! This guide walks through the basics of creating a new post and participating in discussions.

Whether you’re asking a question, sharing a workflow, or posting a resource, we’re glad you’re here.

Step 1 — Sign In

To create posts or reply to discussions, you’ll need to sign in with your EarthScope account.

If you aren’t currently logged in, you will see a Log In button in the upper right corner. Click that button to log in, and if you don’t already have an EarthScope account, you can create one as part of the sign-in process.

The forum is publicly readable, but posting and participation require login.

To create a post:

  1. Navigate to the appropriate category
  2. Click the New Topic button (upper left corner)
  3. Enter:
    • A clear title
    • A description of your question or topic
  4. Add 1–2 relevant tags if possible

Examples of useful tags:

Step 4 — Write a Helpful Post

Good posts usually include:

  • What you’ve already tried
  • Any error messages or screenshots
  • Relevant details about your workflow or environment

The more context you provide, the easier it is for others to help.

Step 5 — Replying to Discussions

You can reply to any public discussion by:

  • Clicking Reply
  • Quoting text from another post
  • Mentioning users with @username

Constructive discussion and knowledge sharing are encouraged.

Step 6 — Editing Your Posts

You can edit your own posts after publishing them.

This is useful for:

  • Correcting mistakes
  • Adding updates
  • Posting solutions after resolving an issue

Step 7 — Notifications & Watching Topics

You can customize notifications for:

  • Individual topics
  • Categories
  • Mentions and replies

To receive updates about GeoLab operations and maintenance, consider watching the Announcements category.
